The Art of Photography with Joe Conzo

On MAY 8th, 2010, YUCA students learned about the art of making pictures with Joe Conzo, a reknown Bronx photographer. Our workshop was an excellent introduction for students wanting to know more about the world of  photography. Mr. Conzo  gave an excellent talk about traditional versus digital photography, explaining in detail the basic elements of image making -  prerequisite for anyone looking to enter the industry. After years of taking pictures, Joe has developed an endearing and approachable technique, with an exceptional ability to connect and engage young people. He prepared a Powerpoint presentation of distributed samples of his photos that served as a teaching aid, visually reinforcing the engaging stories he told, intimate portraits of his experiences while taking pictures in the Bronx. In a very short time, youth  were totally focused and participating with a barage of questions for the veteran photographer. Thank you Joe for coming out and sharing your time and expertise.

About Me

My photo
YUCA Arts
YUCA was started in 2006 when William Acevedo, a graphic designer born and raised in New York City's Lower East Side, felt the need to help youth from similar economically oppressed neighborhoods achieve direction, self-esteem, and success in life by fulfilling their creative potential. Holding an M.S. in design from Pratt Institute and more than twenty years experience in the communications design field, Acevedo recognized that too few youth from similar backgrounds were excelling in the graphic design industry. Furthermore, too few youth in underserved communities had access to organized out-of-school activity and mentoring to help them develop the skills that would allow them to apply successfully to advanced education or to compete in the employment marketplace. Acevedo started YUCA to give back to his community and to help young people achieve the same type of personal and professional success he has enjoyed.
